Five Little Peppers and How They Grew

About the Story

Five Little Peppers and How They Grew Margaret Sidney is the pseudonym for author Harriett Mulford Stone Lothrop (1844-1924). Sidney published her first story in a Boston children’s magazine when she was 34 years old. Two of her short stories “Polly Pepper’s Chicken Pie” and “Phronsie Pepper’s New Shoes” were so popular, Sidney wrote more stories based on these characters. The success of these stories resulted in the “Five Little Peppers” series, which was first published in 1881. Sidney published more than 30 novels before she died at the age of 80.
